Hi

I didn't install it under suse but i think the procedure is the same

first off you must be root, and you must not be running x, so if you boot into the gui, change your runlevel to 3 and reboot into console, then you su. OK you will see that the nvidia driver is a .run file, so all you do is cd into the directory where the file is and run sh filename.run. This should start the nvidia installer, it will guide you through the process, if you are connected to the net it will attempt to download a correct module for your distro, or you can choose to compile the module yourself (need the kernel source installed for this), after that it will do a few more steps and it is done, all that remains is reading the Readme file and editing the x config and modules.conf file, a quick modprobe nvidia will load the module and then you can run startx to test the installation, if this works you can switch the runlevel back to 5.

Hope this helps, you can download the readme file from nvidia which is much more detailed.

cheers

Here is the SuSE guide to installing the Nvidia drivers.
Just one comment, if you want to switch to runlevel 3, open a terminal, become root and type "init 3".
That will close everything and exit you to console so you can install the drivers.

Just follow the 3 easy steps outlined in the doc and you will be fine.

don't forget to edit /etc/X11/XF86Config and changing the gfx driver from 'nv' to 'nvidia'

edit:

sorry, just went thru that HOWTO and it seems that
CODE
3) Configure XFree86 with

sax2 -m 0=nvidia (0 is a digit, not a letter!)

covers what i said above.

Hmm ... I've using Nvidia too on my Suse 9.1, I think theres a easier way to update the Nvidia driver. Run YaST Online Update (YOU), select the Update Nvidia Driver (last few line from the list), then sit back let 'me do it for you. Cheers!

I'm also a noob in Linux. clap.gif

Hello Punk,
a Little off-topic.....I was wondering if it is possible that I get a copy of SuSe9.2 from you?

If not, ok then, I am typing this on my newly installed SuSe9.1 (Thanx Daniel), but I would like to try 9.2 version as well.....you can never have enough Linux Distros...hehe....

Would appreciate your reply.

Thanx,
MrBean.
